Weekend in Tirana

Do you want to spend a weekend among young, beautiful and lively people in places where prices are frozen in time? Than Tirana is your city!

A low-cost weekend that touches all aspects of this multi-faceted city: modern, traditional, historical.

Arrival in Tirana, pick-up from the airport and hotel accommodation in Tirana. Panoramic tour of the city and its most interesting attractions, in the evening tour of the pubs and lounges of the Blloku area before having a couple of drinks in the bars.

Included: two drinks

We begin our journey of the past of the Bunk ‘Art Museum for a full-immersion of the Albanian history of the last 100 years. The former nuclear bunker, built to house the communist dictator Hoxha, tells us the story of the dictator’s time through photographs, objects and documents.

After leaving Bunk ‘Art, we head for a good plate of “qofte” (meatballs) or “byrek”, typical street food from Tirana.

We will enter the National Gallery of Arts to admire many works of socialist realism. Powerful images that give an idea of how “realistic” art was used to create propaganda.

We will visit the pyramid, the former “Enver Hoxha Museum”. Its marble walls, once white, now crumble and are full of graffiti. We will discover his story from our local Tour Guide.

Coffee break at the “Komiteti – Kafe Museum”, for a tasting of different types of raki, Communist candies and maybe even a little coffee.

We will walk through the Blloku area, where we will discover the house of Enver Hoxha and other important members of his regime. We will stop at the Post Blloku memorial, which honors former political prisoners, in an area once forbidden for the common people.

It’s time for another “sweet stop”. The area is known for typical Tirana pastry and cake products.

We will visit the Surveillance Museum, the headquarters of the secret police “Sigurimi” and the heart of the communist regime’s telephone interception network. The “house of the leaves” (as named by the locals) hid many stories, being then used as headquarters of the Gestapo (1943 – 1944) and “house of investigation and torture” by the Albanian secret police later.

Dinner with traditional Albanian music, where you will have the opportunity to learn the steps of various dances with a folklorist group from the Academy of Fine Arts.
